Re:"Russia promises retaliation if weapons deployed in space" If any sane individual looks at the make-up of the UN, and at the general nature of most of the nations of the world, the idea that the governments of the US and Russia have allowed those two nations to be adversaries demonstrates an incredible lack of vision and/or common sense on the parts of both sets of "leaders". Russia and the US should be closer than ever, and our leaders are allowing us to look with suspicion at each other, while the true enemies of modern civilization are growing in strength and surrounding us both.

Dmitry Kosyrev's opinion piece Bush and Ahmahdinejad- no duel- is brilliant. The comparison between Pavarotti, the archaic opera and the decline of meaningfulness in the UN General Assembly and like gatherings is very fitting. Mr. Kosyrev's reflection is as entertaining as it is informative. The UN has lost and continues to lose relevance mainly due to the fact that its agenda has been dominated by its host, the USA, and the UN's judicial power is dead in the water when it comes to regulating and enforcing international laws for the benefit of all its members (not just one or two.) At the same time, other international forums are fast gaining greater relevance.
