DVD Review - Hostel. Part II

A couple of years ago, horror film fans (and others) were impressed with the low-budget movie Hostel by director Eli Roth. It was executive produced by acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino, a fact actively used to promote the film. It was good enough by itself, using all the genre conventions and, at the same time, staying fresh and interesting. Why the decision was made to make a sequel to a story that seemed to have no room for a sequel at all, is anybody's guess, but the result is disastrous. Compared with the first film, Hostel. Part II is uninteresting and silly. Tools that worked in the first movie don't work for a second time, and retelling the same story with the only difference being that teenage boys are substituted with girls this time seems pointless. >>
